yes, it’s inauguration day.
and, as goes without saying but i’ll say it anyway, i wish that john kerry were being inaugurated as the next president of the united states.
but, as we all know but i still feel the need to point out, he’s not.
and, i seem to be a bit too attached to these sort of parenthetical statements, it’s cold.
so here are some of my hopes for the next 4 years:
1-i hope that we somehow resolve the war in iraq and are able to help establish some sort of sovereign(sorry for the alliteration) iraq.
2-i hope that american foreign policy shifts it’s focus to areas of the world(specifically darfour)where our wealth and humanitarian efforts could actually effect a positive change.
3-i hope that we repair our relationships with our allies.
4-i hope that the executive and legislative branches get bogged down with important but un-dynamic stuff like social security and health care.
5-i hope that most of gw bush’s social-conservative posturing ends up being cast aside as having been an effective way to rally the conservative troops for voter turnout, but nothing more.
6-i hope that we have 4 years of political and geo-political boredom.
the last 4 years(9-11, invading afghanistan, invading iraq, alienating our allies, losing jobs, a vicious and bitter election cycle, etc)were far too un-boring. we all deserve 4 years of relative peace and boredom.
here’s hoping.

Journal / Here’s Hoping
someone sent this to me.
here’s hoping…
one sunny day in 2005 an old man approached the white house from across pennsylvania avenue, where he’d been sitting on a park bench. he spoke to the u. s. marine standing guard and said, “”i would like to go in and meet with president bush.””
the marine looked at the man and said, “”sir, mr. bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.””
the old man said, “”okay,”” and walked away.
the following day, the same man approached the white house and said to the same marine, “”i would like to go in and meet with president bush.””
the marine again told the man, “”sir, as i said yesterday, mr. bush is no longer president and no longer resides here.”” the man thanked him and, again, just walked away.
the third day, the same man approached the white house and spoke to the very same u. s. marine, saying “”i would like to go in and meet with president bush.””
the marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “”sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to mr. bush. i’ve told you already that mr. bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. don’t you understand?””
the old man looked at the marine and said, “”oh, i understand. i just love hearing it.””
the marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, “”see you tomorrow.””
Journal / Here’s Hoping
so michael jackson’s been arrested for child molesting, gay marriage has been legalized in massachusets, george bush is being embarrassed and protested against in the uk, more episodes of the family guy are being made, and the weather is great in nyc.
it’s nice to see that the evil grip on the world is lessened every now and then.
one reason i genuinely believe that the right wing in the u.s will ultimately be defeated is because they lie, they’re hateful, and they’re wrong
maybe i’m naive, but here’s hoping.
