glenn beck said recently that ‘you should run as fast as you can from any church that preaches social or economic justice.’ huh.

that seems to be exactly 180 degrees opposite to the teachings of jesus. i mean, i’m not a theologian, but didn’t jesus kind of encourage his followers to take care of the poor and the sick? and didn’t jesus actually and specifically preach social and economic justice? some theologians would argue that a majority of jesus’ teachings are centered around social and economic justice. justice is a concept that even goes back to the old testament.

The prophet jeremiah wrote: “Did not your father the king do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. ‘Is that not what it means to know me?’ declares the Lord.”

And the prophet Isaiah wrote: “Cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.”

Time magazine this week has an article, ‘Why does Glenn Beck hate Jesus?’ maybe this is a question worth considering, especially among the right wing ‘christians’ who consider glenn beck to be their saviour.
