Journal / Geeks Unite

i was just at nasa’s ‘astronomy pic of the day’ site and i saw a panoramic lunar picture from january 28th that is really cool. looking at it (make sure to scroll the full length of the photo) is disconcerting in that for a split second i actually get a sense of what it might be like to stand on the surface of the moon. strange and disconcerting indeed.
and yesterdays photo of two battling storm systems on jupiter is terrifying if you stop for a second to imagine what it must be like to be on the surface (if there is an actual surface, seeing as it’s a gas giant) of jupiter in the middle of one of these storm systems. just imagine being in a storm system that is larger than our entire planet and where the winds are moving at thousands of miles an hour.
very frightening.
it makes me grateful for our little earth with it’s relatively mild storms.

i have decided that from this point on i won’t apologize for my geekiness anymore.
i’m a geek. i like science fiction. i like pictures of outer space. i played d&d in high school (briefly, actually, cos i was more interested in music). i wear glasses. i’d like to own a telescope. so there. i’m a geek and i’m fucking proud of it.
yeah.
fuck yeah.
geeks unite. no more geek related apologies from me.
i embrace my geekiness in all of it’s splendor.
