ok, gay marriage.
there was a flurry of activity last year where a lot of local legislatures made same sex marriage legal.
now the courts and the conservatives are trying to roll things back and define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
here are my small thoughts:
a-if the conservatives are protecting the ‘sanctity of marriage’ shouldn’t they focus their efforts on trying to prevent divorce? seems like people trying to get out of marriages might be a bigger threat to marriage than people trying to gain the right to get married.
b-what would happen if a man and a woman got married and then the woman(or man)got a sex change? would they still be married? what if the woman got a sex change and then the man got a sex change?
so the woman was a man then the man a woman? how does the law cover this?
c-what if there was a religion that compelled same sex marriages? wouldn’t a ban on same sex marriage then be a constitutional issue as it would be a restriction on peoples freedom to practice religion as they so chose?
ok, i’m going upstate now to look at cows.
have a good weekend.
