in the airport lounge in melbourne getting ready for the quick 14 hour flight to los angeles. needless to say i hope they have a couple of good movies on the plane, cos i just went to the bookstore and bought a few books but i fear that they’re all going to be mediocre. this might be a completely banal fear, but i’m always afraid of getting stuck on a long flight without a couple of good books. it happened once when i was flying from london to nyc. i was sitting in between a football coach and a nun and i had one book that i had just bought at wh smith. the flight started to take off and i cracked open my new book and within a few pages realized that it was unreadable. just trash. and not good trash. not fun trash. just trash trash. so i spent the 8 hour flight getting scowled at by the football coach(‘how dare this little bald guy try and use my armrest! i’m bigger than him so i declare that it’s my armrest. if he tries it again i’ll snap his head off.’) and getting smiled at by the kindly nun who didn’t speak english. it was a long 8 hours. and i believe that the movie was ‘robin hood prince of thieves’ which had i had seen on about 100 flights prior to that one. ok, enough complaining. now when i travel i always have 3 books in case one of them ends up sucking.
maybe they should have skateboard ramps on planes. in the baggage hold. wouldn’t that be fun? you get bored on a long flight so you go down to the baggage hold and go skateboarding. or how about paint-gun games on board? or a slip and slide down the aisles? i guess these things might not to conform to faa rules and regulations about safety. pony rides? for the little kids? how could the faa object to pony rides on an airplane?
or maybe a game where for the entire flight no ones allowed to touch the floor and you have to get around by climbing on the seats. someone should make me the entertainment coordinator for an airline.
our airline slogan could be ‘we put the fun in flyiung’
