ok, a few brief words about richard clarke, george bush’s ex-head of counterterrorism.
the bush administration have tried to say that richard clarke was ‘out of the loop’ on counterterrorism. but, well, richard clarke actually was ‘the loop’. he was the head of counterterrorism in the white house.
the bush administration are also trying to malign richard clarke as being a partisan democrat.
but, well, richard clarke served four presidents, reagan, bush senior, clinton, and bush jr. and simple math shows that 3 of those 4 presidents were republicans.
richard clarke even voted for gw bush in 2000. i admit that i do understand the bush camp’s desperation regarding clarke’s testimony, especially seeing as george bush is only running on one platform, the anti-terrorism platform. and it’ll be hard for gw bush to call himself ‘tough on terrorism’ when he spent the first 9 months of his presidency ignoring warnings about al qaeda and cutting funding to counterterrorism.
it’s also interesting that the bush camp aren’t actually responding to richard clarke’s charges , they’re just, in true form, trying to slander him.
