so you know the ‘father ted’ where ted sings ‘i love paris in the springtime’ and missus doyle then tells him that he has a terrible voice?

Journal / Father Ted
father ted…. or, seeing as it’s a work of televised fiction i should write: ‘father ted’.
when i wrote an update recently and included my favourite cultural thingys i believe that i forgot to include ‘father ted’. ‘father ted’ was an irish tv show that was on a few years ago, and it was/is wonderful.
on friday i went to a special screening of a few ‘ted’ episodes and i got the chance to speak with graham linehan, one of the writers, and (forgive my spelling) ardal? who played father doogal maguire. apparently the bbc here in the states is going to start broadcasting ‘father ted’, so if you have access to bbc-america, please watch ‘father ted’, as it’s phenomenal.
i imagine that anyone reading this update who lives in the uk or eire knows of what i speak. the best episodes, imho, are the first one with spider baby and the craggy island fun fair, and the episode with the promiscuous milkman where doogal ends up driving the milk-float. amazing.
‘spider baby, it’s got the head of a spider, and the body of a spider, but the mind of a baby’ and the ‘ted’ where they enter the eurovision song contest is pretty spectacular. their entry is entitled ‘my lovely horse’ and i’m proud to say that when we performed at ‘the point’ in dublin i did a very very bad rendition of this song: ‘my lovely horse running through the, field. where are you going with your fetlocks blowing in the, wind. i want to shower you with sugar lumps and take you to the horse dentist.
ride you around and jump you over fences. my lovely horse you’re a pony no more. riding around with a man on your back like a train in the night like a train in the night.’
if you’ve seen the music video for ‘my lovely horse’ you know how wonderful ‘ted’ is.
ok, enough about ‘father ted’ (one of the funniest shows to ever be on the tv). although graham, one of the writers, did say that one of their biggest influences for the show was the simpsons. you can’t really go wrong there, can you?
ok, it’s 3 a.m, time to get back to work.
