like a lot of people i’ve been thinking about what should be built in the space where the world trade center used to be. i’ve done a very, very rough drawing (well, all of my drawings are very rough, considering that they’re done with the track-pad of my i-book) of an idea that i’ve had for two buildings that could be built in the place where the world trade center once stood.
the arch between the two buildings would be the same shape and dimensions as the arches that were at the base of the former twin towers. and the park between the new towers would have a very shallow reflecting pool with the names of everyone who died in the terrorist attacks written on it’s bottom, to symbolize ‘gone but not forgotten’. and there would be a light under the bottom of the reflecting pool and the names would be translucent, so at night their names would glow through the water.
that’s my suggestion.
the arch to symbolize unity in the face of despair and aggression.
and the basic architectural themes of the original twin towers to be represented in these two new buildings as an homage to the buildings and the people and the lives that were taken from us.
well, that’s my idea at least. i think that my drawing can be found in the ‘drawings’ section of this site. and please keep in mind that it’s a 2-dimensional drawing that’s really rough.
thanks
