i went to see devo tonight.
i never saw devo back in the 80’s, so i was excited to go see them tonight.
and, they were great.
i mean, really, really great.
they looked like mid-western science teachers and they had tons of energy and they were funny and they played all of the great songs(‘girl u want’, ‘smart patrol/mr dna’, etc) and they were fantastic and it sounded great and i can’t remember having had more fun at a concert in a long, long time.
i’m almost tempted to find out where else they’re playing and make road trips to go and see more shows.
mark mothersbaugh is still an amazing performer. well, they were all great performers, and they actually seemed to still have vestiges of the rapport that they probably had back in akron in the 70’s when they started.
nerds once, nerds forever. i think i can relate to that sentiment…
and given the fact that the religious right are challenging evolution in the classroom it seemed particularly germaine to be seeing devo(at one point they even asked if we all still believed in ‘de-evolution’…and we all said ‘yes’. the subtext being that so many anti-intellectual dimwits seem to be in positions of power and influence these days).
like i said, i haven’t seen such a good show in a long, long time.
thanks,
moby
Journal / DEVO!!!
i’m going to see devo in central park today.
i love devo.
q,a: we are devo, duty now for the future, and freedom of choice are 3 of my all time favorite records.
i feel like a giddy teenager.
i hope that they play ‘girl u want’. that’s my favorite. and ‘gates of steel’.
i remember playing a rave in akron in the early(or mid?)90’s and being excited cos it was the town where devo had its nascence.
maybe i’ll go watch the devo dvd to get more excited.
yay devo.
