ok, i’m going to be a whiny guy and complain about something…
i don’t have a drivers license. and i’d like to have a drivers license.
i don’t want to own a car, but i’d like to have the option to drive if i so desire.
here’s the problem: the motor vehicle department.
allow me to complain…
imagine if in order to see your dentist you had to go to the dentist office and wait for 3 hours just to make an appointment to see the dentist.
and in order to make the appointment you had to sit in a depressing room full of other annoyed people.
and after waiting for 3 hours to make your appointment you were told that the next appointment wouldn’t be for 6 months.
you would be justifiably annoyed and you would never use that dentist again.
so why do we put up with this kind of nonsense from the department of motor vehicles (and other government organizations)?
i’m not some crazy anti-federalist, but it annoys me that i can’t just call up the department of motor vehicles, make an appointment, and take my drivers test.
shouldn’t it be that simple?
i went to the nyc dmv and it was like being in the terry gilliam movie ‘brazil’.
miles and miles of anachronistic beaurocracy.
ah well. i feel better now, having vented a bit.
but why do we all take it for granted that institutions run by the government will invariably suck?
advice to any budding politicians: promise an overhaul of the department of motor vehicles and you will instantly be elected by a joyous and relieved electorate.
