i guess that it’s really summer, cos it’s 9pm and there’s still daylight.
9pm and daylight might not seem too impressive to our northern european/canadian/alaskan brethren and sistren, but here in the big apple and it’s suburbs, 9pm daylight is kind of cool.
i remember my first trip to europe in 1987.
i was amazed that it stayed light outside until 11pm. i had always assumed that england and nyc were on the same latitude. au contraire. nyc is on the same latitude as madrid and athens. london is way, way up north when compared to nyc.

and when you get to the really far northern places, reykjavik, inverness, joensuu, etc it’s so odd when it just doesn’t get dark at night. i remember being in finland in june and it didn’t get dark. it got dusky at around 2 a.m, and then the sun started to come back up. which was disconcerting, but kind of cool.

do you think that george w will ever go back to europe? i have the feeling that he didn’t have too much fun there. poor little duby, so sheltered. apparently he referred to africa as ‘a country’ earlier today. ‘a country with much disease’.

i wonder what his thoughts are about his trip to the country of europe? and if there are any other countries he’ll be visiting? caribbea? asia? africa and asia certainly are the worlds biggest countries, huh.

and this man is our president…ignorance is certainly forgivable, but not such pernicious ignorance in the (purported) leader of the free world.
