Journal / Cold Outside

ok, from journal entries about geo-polical crises to journal entries about…weather.
our old friend the weather.
someone in america has left the cold on for too long.
this is global warming?
where are the coconuts? the palm fronds swaying gently in the tropical breezes? the smell of coco-butter sun tan lotion bronzing people into melanoma?
it is -1 fahrenheit (-18 celsius) tonight.
and it’s a saturday night and the streets are full (well, occupied at least) with people going from bar to party to bar, and wearing nought but little party frocks and flimsy coats.
i, on the other hand, am wearing long johns, thermal socks, 2 layers of polar fleece, a heavy overcoat, polar expedition mittens, and a fleece balaclava. yes, i look like a polar fleece ninja, but at least i’m warm-ish. well, now i’m home. so i’m not warm-ish, i’m warm. it has been so cold this winter. i’m not even complaining. extreme weather has personality.

and i’m going to new zealand and australia and hong kong and singapore and mexico city in a couple of weeks, so i really would have no basis for weather related complaints even if i chose to make a few.
but, suffice it to say, it’s cold in nyc tonight. i hope that you’re warm wherever you are. or if not warm, i hope that you’re at least enjoying the cold.
