Journal / Beaches

in new zealand now.
and, guess what, i’m very tired.
no complaints from me. just stating that little fact.
very tired.
you know that tired feeling when you turn your head and it takes your eyes and your brain a second or two to catch up? that kind of tired.
when you blink and it feels like your eyelids are exfoliating your eyeballs.
when you find yourself staring at something cos it’s too much effort to do anything else. so you just sit and stare, regardless of what it is you’re staring at.
and i’m off to a couple of beaches.
2 beaches. piha beach and then the beach where they shot part of ‘the piano’.
but it’s winter, so the beaches will be quiet and stoic. i wonder if new zealand has been overrun with tourists after ‘lord of the rings’? i’m sure the south island has seen a jump in tourist traffic? how could it not? new zealand is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. and it’s so remote. i really don’t think that the rest of the world is aware of just how remote new zealand is. i guess it’s closest neighbor is australia, and that’s a 3 or 4 hour flight away. most people have this idea of new zealand and australia being a mile or two away from each other.
you know, a quick swim through shark infested waters and you’re in new zealand. nope. new zealand is far away from everything. which is certainly one of the things that makes it so unique.
ok, off to the beaches.
