oh yes, i know i'm redundant in my interests…but i was watching the simpsons earlier (one watches tv when one sits in hotel rooms on ones days off, doesn't one?) and it was the episode where bart and lisa write for itchy and scratchy and homer goes back to night school.
'cartoons have writers?'
'sort of'
'this is abraham simpson, and he has something that none of you eggheads can understand, life experience'
'uh, actually sir, i did my thesis on life experience'
'shut up, so abe tell us about your fascinating life'
'for 30 years i was a night watchman at a cranberry silo'
and on another note (even though i may have written about this in an earlier update, i'm getting forgetful in my old age), i need to say just how amazing it is to have new order on area:one.
when i was in high school, joy division and new order were my favourite bands. so to be watching them perform every day is just amazing.
in san francisco they opened with 'atmosphere' which is certainly one of the most beautiful joy division songs.
when i was in high school, if you had told me that at some point in my adult life i would be standing on the side of the stage watching new order perform at a festival that i organized there's just no way that i would've believed you.
but it happened.
and i feel very fortunate.
and billy corgan's great, too. i would look up at him performing and he had this big grin on his face, just thrilled that he was playing guitar with new order.
so, i feel like a lucky little festival organizer, indeed (not to mention how fortunate i feel to have oakey and carl cox and derrick may and outkast and the roots and incubus and rinocerose and the orb and nelly furtado and juan atkins and kevin saunderson and timo maas on the festival as well…)
and speaking of area:one, it's time to get on the bus and head out to todays site.
bye for now,
moby
