3 new york photos i took the other day.
the first is just a small cross-section of the nyc skyline with a big ominous sky.

some trivia: as far as i know, the empire state building is as tall as it is because it was originally designed to be a docking station for zeppelins. yup. but apparently it was too windy, and the zeppelin passengers got queasy on disembarkation. so they moved the docking station to new jersey, where the hindenburg exploded, thus kind of ending intercontinental zeppelin travel.
the 2nd picture is a picture i took on van dam street recently.

i tried to make it look as if the picture had been taken 60 years ago, as it’s not every day you get to see a 60 year old car on old streets in front of 19th century buildings. if only the people in the background had had the decency to wear homburgs and fedoras.
and the 3rd picture is a sad picture… the end of vesuvio bakery. the last bastion of old soho. well, one of the last bastions of old soho.

vesuvio might have been the first place i ever went to in soho in the early 80’s, for cheap whole wheat bread and coffee. it became a pilgrimage, as my friends and i would go to vesuvio for cheap bread and coffee, and then go across the street to rocks in your head record, where we’d sit and watch buzzcocks and joy division music videos. goodbye vesuvio, you will be missed. maybe they’ll open a cbgb’s merchandise store there.
three pictures of new york. ok,
have a good weekend.
