you know, this isn’t so much about politics as it is about how the right wing have kind of missed the point with a few of their core issues.
a-immigration. isn’t the ultimate goal of being a patriot to make your country strong and great? with that in mind, why are people so concerned about protecting the people who just happened to be born here? personally i think that we should
test people, americans and non-americans, when they turn 18, and if they pass the test they get to stay(or enter), and if they fail they get deported(to the country of our choosing) or they’re denied citizenship.
the sad truth is that there are a lot of egregiously dumb americans whose presence here is dragging us all down.
so when someone turns 18 they get to take a simple literacy/current events/citizenship test.
you pass, you get to stay.
you fail, you get deported, and maybe you can apply to take the test again in a few years.
some sample questions:
a-there were weapons of mass destruction in iraq. yes or no.
b-germany is:
a-a country in europe
b-a country in france
c-a city in canada
d-hitler’s last name
c-as ‘the new testatment’ is to ‘christians’, so ‘the ‘q’uran’ is to ______’
d-pick the proper spelling:
ignurant
ignorint
ignorant
iggnorant
none of the above
and so on.
not to sound too swiftian, but shouldn’t citizenship be earned and not just apportioned based on the luck of birth?
ok, now on to:
b-gays. and gay marriage.
first off, how many times did christ mention homosexuality in the new testament?
answer: 0. never. not once.
he mentioned a lot of other things, however, and my advice to christians would be to maybe spend some time thinking about the things that he did talk about rather than obsessing over things that he never mentioned.
he did spend a lot of time talking about:
not judging other people
being humble and forgiving
not waging war or physically hurting people
taking care of the poor and the disenfranchised
and so on.
ok, gay marriage.
i’m not the first person to say this, but shouldn’t a ‘defense of marriage’ act include something about divorce?
as jon stewart(my hero)said, ‘it’s not like 50% of marriages end because of gayness’.
and, oh, christians?
your friend jesus christ didn’t mention gay marriage, but he did say a few things about divorce.
so maybe, just maybe, you might want to actually read the teachings of the guy you supposedly base your value system on?
some surprising things about the teachings of christ, that many christians might not know:
a-he never mentioned homosexuality
b-he doesn’t say too many supportive things about the biological family
c-he wasn’t a big fan of capitalism
d-he wasn’t a big fan of religious leaders
e-he wasn’t such a big fan of war(going so far as to say that not only shouldn’t you kill someone, but you shouldn’t even be angry with them)
and so on.
ok, so what have we learned?
a-that, in a swiftian, albeit practical, way, the united states needs a citizenship test for immigrants and for people who are actually born here
and
b-most christians in the united states are obsessed with issues that christ never talked about, and at the same time they are seemingly unaware of the things that christ actually did talk about.
thanks, have a nice weekend.
