Journal / ah, just back from 48 hours with npr in dc. i love npr.

ah, just back from 48 hours with npr in dc. i love npr. i want to move there, maybe they’ll let me sleep in a utility closet. seriously, npr is one of the best things about media in america. smart and progressive and idiosyncratic and interesting and understated. and their numbers keep going up while conventional radio and media continue their descent into the toilet of low ratings and diminishing revenues. perhaps conventional radio and media could learn some things from npr? like:

1 respect your audience
2 smart and funny are not mutually exclusive
3 the lowest common denominator is/are not the only demographic
4 people actually have attention spans longer than .7 seconds when the programming is smart and interesting
5 screaming at people is not the best way to sustain their attention
6 people will be loyal if you give them good reasons to be loyal

i’m not sure if i’m allowed to say why i was at npr in dc for 48 hours.  so i won’t.  at least for now. at some point when i’m allowed to i’ll say why i was at npr in dc for 48 hours.
i do as i’m told. obediently,

-moby
